Selecting A Diamond ~ Start the Conversation

Selecting a Diamond can seem daunting.  There is a quite a bit of knowledge to grasp with the Four C’s of color, cut, clarity, and carat. And then there is the Fifth C: cost. Jewelry is sometimes rated the 4th largest purchase a person will make in their lifetime, behind home, education, and vehicles, and an engagement diamond is probably the largest of jewelry purchases. We research cars and home before we buy them. Purchasing a diamond is the same ~ a little research can turn the shopping from a daunting task to fun and exciting!

Not to worry, there are professionals on your side. Jewelers, like David and Don Herrington, have decades of experience helping customers arrive at that “Aha” moment of decision. It all begins with a conversation.

A few tips:

1. Choose a jeweler you can trust. Reputation and referrals from friends are great. How long have they been in business? Do they service with a smile?  Look at their advertising, Facebook page, Google plus, and their website. What image do they project? Are they involved with the community? By all means meet with them and talk. What kind of impression do they leave with you?

2. Don’t buy online ~ you’ll be disappointed.  Picking a diamond online is like picking your wife from a stack of drivers licenses. The picture might look nice but the flaws will be hard to live with for lifetime.

3. Read our blogs on the Four C’s to get a basic knowledge. These are the   attributes determine the price of a diamond:  Clarity, Color, Cut, and Carat. The famous Four C’s. One of the first things most people learn about diamonds is that not all diamonds are created equal. In fact, every diamond is unique. Diamonds come in many sizes, shapes, colors, and with various internal characteristics.
