Evergreen Home Performance | Energy Effiiciency Audits & Insulation | MaineThe cost of home heating oil is an average of $3.86 per gallon, eight-cents per gallon higher than it was a year ago, according to the Governor’s Energy Office. Propane and kerosene are also more expensive than they were last winter: the cost of propane is up 70-cents to $3.52 per gallon and kerosene is up seven-cents to $4.32.

“This heating season has been one of the most expensive heating seasons on record for Maine families,” reports the Governor’s Energy Office. Temperatures have been 18.7% colder this winter, and heating fuel prices have been higher across the board.

“Mainers are painfully aware of the fact that our population pays some of the highest heating costs in the country, which burdens our economy and undermines finite household budgets,” says Patrick Woodcock, Director of the Governor’s Energy Office. Woodcock praised new rebate and loan programs from Efficiency Maine for helping homeowners lower these heating costs for the long-term.
