The cost of propane jumped another eight cents last week, to $3.25 per gallon, according to the Governor’s Energy Office. Tight supplies, delivery challenges, and high demand have combined to make this a very expensive winter for the 46,000 households that heat with propane. Costs have increased 60-cents-per-gallon since the heating season began in October. Home heating oil in Maine has also increased this season, up 28-cents since October to a statewide average of $3.81 per gallon,
“Mainers are painfully aware of the fact that our population pays some of the highest heating costs in the country, which burdens our economy and undermines finite household budgets,” says Patrick Woodcock, Director of the Governor’s Energy Office. Woodcock praised new rebate and loan programs from Efficiency Maine for helping homeowners lower these heating costs for the long-term.
