The cost of home heating oil in Maine rose another two cents last week, for a total of 13 cents over the last month, to an average of $3.66 per gallon, according to the Governor’s Energy Office. The increase came during an unusually brutal stretch of cold weather, and was accompanied by a 7-cent-per-gallon jump in the cost of propane.
“Mainers are painfully aware of the fact that our population pays some of the highest heating costs in the country, which burdens our economy and undermines finite household budgets,” says Patrick Woodcock, Director of the Governor’s Energy Office. Woodcock praised new rebate and loan programs from Efficiency Maine for helping homeowners lower these heating costs for the long-term.
