What are you looking for?

These days, standing-seam metal roofs are seen on more and more Maine homes.  Why is this?  Why are Mainers changing the look of the traditional New England-style home by installing a metal roof in place of the asphalt shingle roofs?

  • A metal roof is low-maintenance.  Asphalt shingles often fly off due to severe weather conditions and wear down more quickly.  Asphalt shingle roofs also require shoveling in the winter, since the snow does not slide off as it does on metal roofs.  With a metal roof, homeowners do not have to worry about frequent roof maintenance projects.
  • Metal is the most sustainable roofing material.  Usually, if you decide to change from asphalt shingles to metal, the metal can be installed right on top of the shingles.  This cuts down on the waste produced from your reroofing project.  Metal roofing material is also easier to recycle.
  • Metal roofs reduce energy costs.  In the summer, buildings are cooler due to the way metal roofs reflect sunlight, reducing the amount of heat transmitted into the building.  In the winter, buildings are warmer because inside heat is reflected back into the house from the underside of the roof.
  • Metal roofs look great! Metal roofs can significantly add to the curb appeal of a home and come in a variety of colors.
